EnPower, Inc. Receives $367,799 USABC Contract Award for Low-Cost/Fast-Charge EV Technology Assessment Program

March 18, 2021

Phoenix, AZ, March 18, 2021 – EnPower, Inc. today announced it received a competitively bid, $367,799 contract award from the United States Advanced Battery Consortium LLC (USABC) in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for a low-cost/fast-charge Lithium-ion battery technology assessment program. The contract includes a 50 percent cost-share by EnPower, Inc.

The 9-month contract began in February 2021 and will focus on demonstrating EnPower’s multilayer electrode technology in the anode and cathode of a BEV-class energy cell to meet USABC’s fast charge targets.  This is EnPower’s first contract with USABC.

“We are pleased to engage with USABC and the major U.S. automobile manufacturers to address a critical challenge facing the mass adoption of electric vehicles,” said Annette Finsterbusch, President & CEO of EnPower. “Our goal is to demonstrate high-energy cells that can repeatedly withstand extreme fast charging (XFC) without capacity loss or increased cell cost. As part of this contract, we will deliver 7Ah pouch cells from our Phoenix-based pilot line for thorough testing and evaluation. We believe that programs such as these are essential to advancing technology to meet both near- and long-term challenges and we are honored to have been chosen to work with USABC.”

USABC is a subsidiary of the United States Council for Automotive Research LLC (USCAR). Enabled by a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy, USABC’s mission is to develop electrochemical energy storage technologies that enable widespread commercialization in vehicle applications. In support of its mission, USABC has developed mid- and long-term goals to guide its projects and measure its progress.

About EnPower, Inc.

EnPower, Inc. is an early-stage company developing fast charge lithium-ion battery technology. EnPower’s patented multilayer electrode architectures solve the fundamental tradeoff between energy and power in today’s batteries, enabling both long range and repeated fast charging for electric vehicles. Manufacturing these architectures is a drop-in to existing Lithium-ion manufacturing infrastructure, adds no cost to the unit cell, and uses industry-standard materials. Headquartered in Phoenix, AZ, the Company operates a 240 kWh/year rapid prototyping facility that delivers novel designs in 3.5-7.0Ah stacked pouch cells in under three weeks.
